Born as the only child into the Báthory family, a well-off family in Recollé, Ferid grew up with the title of "genius" and was treated as such by the rest of his kin: he was given the best tutors, anything that would help with his academic pursuits, and puts to the test constantly to ensure that his future was bright and that he’d be well-received among the rest of the community. Despite the pressure, Ferid worked well within his constraints to the point of boredom; it was at the point of his life, around what would be late-middle school if he went to one, that he started to really act out. A few pranks here and there with distant cousins had been nothing of note when he was young, but now he was one-upping his tutors and parent, using his smart mouth to get under their skin in harmless ways and toeing the line of being a perfectly fine adolescent and a rebel.

Despite his continued behavior to amuse himself, his family continued to keep the weight on him throughout what would have been his high school years, hoping that he would settle. He didn't. Ferid, with all his teachings, sought a new experience: university.

It was here that he met who would become the mother of his child, and though they are no longer together he still regards her fondly, keeping his hair up with a variety of ribbons instead of the usual hair tie. She brought a time of interest into his life and he cherishes it very much; she also brought a person of interest into his life in the form of a child! Though admittedly not always around in the first years of their life (they had caretakers when he was still in college who pampered them as much as he had been) Ferid loves them with all his heart, doting on them frequently and encouraging them to give anything (and, later on, anyone) that interests them a shot.

While his kid was growing up, he balanced various hobbies with fatherhood and tasked their with public schooling; due to his own upbringing in relative solitude with tutors and family gatherings every so often, Ferid wasn't particularly in tune with people the way one should be, though social graces and degrees in Psychology and Sociology would have anyone fooled otherwise, and sought to give them the chance to be better in that regard. They very much had the freedom to do as they pleased, but education was something he was firm about. And stickers. Very firm about stickers.

When it came for the inevitable rebellious stage, he was delighted! After all, his own acting out had been fun, and he takes their choices in stride, chiding them when it came to skipping school and turning a blind eye otherwise. Children learn by experience. He rarely found himself having an issue with them going off here and there, mostly because money buys you a lot. Throughout this period of time, he continued his own education in various, unrelated areas, but always made time for them in a way that didn’t seem to occur to his own parents.

A few months hence, a new person came under his care: A young woman by the name of Elizabeth. Knowing of her situation, he seeks to give her a final home that actually feels like home, someplace she may return to in the future once she's off on her own. Her eccentricities bring Ferid absolute delight, considering his own, and though he doesn't entirely understand the MMORPG part of her life he takes great care in feeding into any book interest she has and reciting plays with her if he hears her practicing, asking only that she helps him in his florist's shop in exchange for allowance.

Presently, Ferid is considered the unfortunate black sheep of the Báthory family, though he still has his inheritance and good enough relations to the rest of them. They invite him and his charges cordially when needed and he's always sure to attend, mostly to see the distant cousins (such as Jaeger) that interest him and on a lesser note to shove in their face that tradition isn't important and a free-spirit is all that’s really needed in life to get the most out of it. As previously stated, he owns and works a flower shop with Elizabeth as his aide, using his unnecessary knowledge of floriography and floral design to put together bouquets and help those in need. It's uncharacteristic of a florist to actually pay attention to the meanings behind the blossoms, but Ferid is so charmed by them that he considers it a new level in difficulty to match fitting meanings with balance and beauty of the arrangements. Cost isn't anything he's worried about.

AU PERSONALITY: Since he hasn't had 2000 plus years of life, Ferid actually genuinely enjoys the things he does and the people he talks to! He actually feels human things! It's amazing! Additionally, because of this, he's not particularly sadistic the way he is in canon; he still enjoys picking on others and watching man struggle against an uphill climb (particularly if it's something he can actually help with and just finds it more fun to watch) but he won't be running a despair game... or even manipulating others in a way that'll hurt them. There's no point to seeing that raw emotion for him as a human since he can still feel it himself.

He likes people and is thoughtful of their feelings more than in canon, too, though that doesn't mean he'll always choose to care deeply. Ferid becomes fond more easily (and less troublingly) and while he still has the patience of a saint he's very much more proactive in making his own fun, more involved with others rather than getting them to do his dirty work and the like; he doesn't have secrets that'll get him killed here, designs that threaten to overturn anyone, etc etc, so it's easier to connect. It helps he's not an apathetic asshole, just a regular asshole.
